The
Program Committee is tasked with developing and organizing the NWEA program
for each Annual State Conference that is usually held the first week in November.
The committee’s primary goal in preparing each annual conference program is
to reach all sectors of our membership (including technical, administrative
and regulatory sectors, as well as less experienced members and students) with
a program that is informative, entertaining and promotes interaction among the
registrants. Since NWEA is an all-volunteer organization, recognition of our
most dedicated and productive members at our annual awards banquet is extremely
important.

Educating the public is
a very important task for water quality professionals. Informing the public
about the effects of their daily activities and improving the public perception
of our industry is the Public Education Committee’s primary goal.
Water quality standards
that continue to become more astringent can only be met with the cooperation
of an educated public. The committee focuses efforts toward young people because
they are our future leaders. We
also supply speakers for adult groups.
The public education committee
objectives are:
*
Identify and educate targeted public.
*
Broadly publicize NWEA purposes and activities.
* Through public education, enhance the reputation of water
environment professionals for integrity, efficiency and excellence of service.
* Maintain
an effective exhibition program.

The primary purpose of the Safety Committee is to recognize member organizations for their excellence in accident prevention, and the way they promote safety in their facilities (meetings, materials, programs, safety upgrades, etc.). We give awards to these facilities in November at the fall conference. (You can’t be recognized if you don’t fill out a safety award application). We are also looking into having safety seminars, and loaning out safety videos to our members, so they could get CEUs. If anyone has any ideas on how the Safety Committee could better help our members, or you would like to join the Safety Committee, please let us know.
